Stevens
1 Davis Place Genealogies
The oldest known Stevens in this line is Lewis Stevens born about 1815 in North Carolina. The earliest written record I've found for him so far is the record of his marriage to Isabella Berryhill on 2 Mar 1851 in Barbour County, Alabama. Isabella was born abt 1827, the daughter of John Berryhill and Sara McGane.

The couple moved from Alabama before 1860, and are next found in the written record on the 1870 Bienville Parish, Louisiana, census with 7 of their children. An 8th daughter, Sarah, was born in 1872. Unfortunately, Isabella passed away in 1875. Lewis remarried in 1879 to Rhoda A (Collinsworth) Johnson, with whom he had one more child, a son, Moses, in September 1879. Lewis passed away in 1895. Both he and Isabella are buried in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in  Ringgold, Bienville Parish, Louisiana.

Lewis and Isabella's 5th child, a son, Clayton Alexander Stevens, married Susan Elizabeth "Lizzie" Diamond on 3 Jan 1897. The couple moved from Bieville to Red River Parish after the 1900 census where they raised 8 children. Clayton was a freemason and is listed as an officer of the Mackey Lodge in Ringgold in 1901, and in 1927 as a past Master of the Conly Lodge in Hall Summit. Lizzie Stevens passed away from malaria in Jan 1934 at 61 years of age. Clayton died tragically on 11 Oct 1938 as a result of complications from burns he received after being trapped inside a burning home. He and Lizzie are both buried in Mt Zion Cemetery in Hall Summit, Red River Parish, Louisiana.
